Nightengale Elementary School Media Center
It is the role of the Library Media Program to cultivate an enthusiasm for reading, which is the foundation for developing effective users of ideas and information. In our technology-driven society, information is everywhere.
In the Massena Central School District, the Library Media Program is an extension of the classroom. Collaboration between the librarian and classroom teachers is the key to student success.

Spring Buy 1 Get 1 Free - Last Book Fair of the Year!
We will be having our coolest book fair of the school year this month, May 20th - 23rd! Our Night for families we'll be open May 21st until 6:30pm.  Look forward to seeing you one last time this school year in the library!

LIBRARY THANK YOUS
March 21st Open House was a memorable evening for students, teachers and families met acclaiming author: JAMES PRELLER.

I would like to thank the Nightengale Neighbors for their continous support, Nightengale faculty and Mrs. Burkhalter for her continuous help and assistance!

Massena was blessed witht he support of the following businesses and we thank you very much!

Massena's Quality Inn for their donation of accommodations of four nights; Common Grounds and local Massena Pizza Hut for their donations of lunch meals.

I thank James Preller for making the driving up to our way northern New York Massena Schools!

Library Overview
In the Nightengale Night Hawk's library we are working on different level literacy and technological goals.
Kindergarten / 1st Grade: Love for the written word, respect for book material, and understanding of phonics and sight words.

2nd / 3rd Grade: Knowledge of library organization; Picture books, Fiction, Non-Fiction/Dewey Decimal Classification, alphabetization; the basic research process; beginning work on computer skills and Word.

4th / 5th / 6th Grade: Big 6 Research Process. Review knowledge of - OPAC, dictionary, thesaurus, encyclopedia, atlas; Computer skills with Word, Power Point, and Publisher; Respect, understanding and responsibility with Internet research, citing sources, and utilizing online sharing sites.
